LMS web interface keeps becoming unresponsive on Debian 10

$

I've always run the current version of Debian without issues for the last 10 years or so, but since upgrading my LMS server to Debian 10 (Intel x64) I've noticed that the web interface keeps becoming unresponsive for periods of about 10 seconds, and then it catches up. In some cases the music will also stop during the periods it's not responding.

Running LMS 7.9.2-1562753347 on minimal Debian 10 Intel x64.

Any thoughts?

Thumbnails sometimes not visible on SB touch

I have a weird problem. When i lokk at my music-> artis-> on my touchwith some artist i don't see any thumbnails of the albums, with other i do. It is artist dependant, when there is one thumbnail with the artist, then they are all present. It never happens that half the list has thumbnails. When i look at "albums" or "recent", i get a full list of thumbnails. Also in a browser i can see all thumbnails. I have cleaned up all false images i could find en reinstalled the server and have reset the SB touch to factory settings.
I use a Synology 116 with LMS 7.7.6 - 1452060463 installed. This is the current version that is approved by Synology.

Hi, I've got Jivelite up and running and it's working just about, I still need to calibrate the touchscreen properly.

I'm usng 1024x600 skin and it looks nice but the VU meters don't fill the screen, it looks like they are for a lower resolution, is it possible to edit them or change them to scale them up so they fill the screen?

Hi

I have an old iPhone 5 that I would like to use as a remote controller / player.
This iPhone can not be updated past iOS10, so the app store is not very usable any more.
Otherwise I would get iPeng Classic.

I do have IPeng Classic for iPad - but this will not install on the iPhone.

Any suggestions for other apps or workarounds ?

Thanks

Would love advice on how to diagnose Tidal buffering

$

Hi,

I'm getting occasional complaints on the Touch of Tidal buffering and I would help on trying to diagnose the problem. I never know what to switch on in the logs. It's got worse in the last few months.
Of course it's intermittent and of course I can never get it to struggle when I'm looking!

Looking at the logs I'm also seeing a lot of

[19-07-20 08:18:23.3876] Slim::Networking::SqueezeNetwork::Players::_player s_error (374) Unable to get players from SN: Timed out waiting for data, retrying in 86400 seconds

There was a bit of it on 28/29 June and then it started in anger on 7 July

Please let me know what to switch on and I'll collect a bunch of evidence and try some stuff.

Thanks a lot in advance

Wi-fi key not reognized. What do I have to choose : WPA(AES/CCMP), WPA (TKIP) ?

Hi,

I'm French and until now my wi-fi code was recognized on the Squeezebox radio. I checked and the kind of protection for the wi-fi code selected by default by my internet service provider was WPA (TKIP+AES).
But, currently, my wi-fi code isn't recognized by my radio.

For that kind of problem, the website of my internet access provider writes that with certain devices (PDA, game consoles...) we must change the kind of the wi-fi protection : in that situation, they recommend to select WPA (TKIP) ou WPA (AES/CCMP) in case we detect a problem by trying to connect a device by wi-fi.
I don't know which one to select to solve my problem.

Can you help me by telling me I've to do to enable my Squeezebox radio to connect to my internet box?
Last, the website of my ISP proposes another mode : WPA.
With my laptop I connect by WPA (TKIP+AES) and even by choosing another mode like WPA (TKIP) the connexion works out without any problem by using the same code as before.

Cheers.

album replaygain for multi-disc albums

$

I noticed a slight oddity, and am wondering how to best handle it.

Please forgive me if this has been discussed; I tried a few searches, but didn't see anything obvious.

I rip albums to single-FLAC-file plus CUE file. I also use DISCNUMBER & DISCTOTAL/TOTALDISCS tags, so that multi-disc albums show up as a single album in LMS, with tracks 1-1 to n-m, where n is the number of discs, and m the last track on the last disc.

I end up with a file structure like:

album/CD1/file.flac
album/CD1/file.cue
album/CD2/file.flac
album/CD2/file.cue

[I don't do this manually; I use XLD on Mac]

So there are multiple CUE files for each album, one for each CD. Each CUE file has a single REPLAYGAIN_ALBUM_GAIN value. Generally the value for this is different for each CD in the album (as much as 1dB).

When LMS scans the files, it seems to use the REPLAYGAIN_ALBUM_GAIN from the last CUE file read for that album, as the single gain for the whole album, regardless of which value is greater.

[There are no embedded gain tags in the flac file's VORBIS_COMMENT section; all gain values are in the CUE files]

I'm not saying this is a bug, but I'm not sure it's ideal, either. One annoyance is that if the last CD in the album is quieter, that gain value is applied to all the CDs in the album, and you get a fright when the first is too loud.

It might be nicer if LMS would take the largest of the REPLAYGAIN_ALBUM_GAIN values it obtains, for a multi-file set, and use that as the album gain? That would at least avoid the first CD being played louder than I'd like, when the second CD has a lower gain value.

Or, perhaps even better, use a different "album" gain value depending on which track in the album is being played? Although that wouldn't make sense in random-order play, but could perhaps be done only when playing the album in normal track order. e.g. the applied gain would be the same for tracks 1-1 to 1-n, but then change to the next value for tracks 2-1 to 2-n, etc.

Thoughts?

thanks very much…

tell LMS to ignore some dirs whilst scanning

$

quickie question, please…

Is there any quick way to get LMS to ignore directories (recursively, i.e. a dir hierarchy) whilst scanning, with some sort of sentinel file? A little like Android's ".nomedia" file, for example?

I could go in and change filename extensions, but that doesn't scale well, and will result in the "changed" files being backed up again (unnecessarily).

thanks very much.

Now that you can play SiriusXM from a web-brower via https://player.siriusxm.com or via Alexa, Roku etc. https://www.siriusxm.com/athome , would it be possilbe to play it on a squeezebox as well, similar to Spotty or something? Would be nice! I guess shairport should work but I never really got it to work properly on my system...

Odroid HC1 as a server

$

I am evaluating one of these as a headless LMS server. So far it seems ideal. The HC1 has an 8-core arm CPU and 2GB of DDR3 ram + GB ethernet. For thermal stability, the entire HC1 frame is a large aluminum heatsink. What makes the HC1 superior to the Raspberry and many other small systems is the full-speed SATA connection for a 2.5" SSD or spinning HDD. I chose an SSD for total silence. The drive slides right into the heatsink/frame with no cables or mounting hardware needed.

HC1 stands for Home Cloud 1, a basic but powerful system meant to be used as a server; there is no video, no audio, no wifi and only 1 USB port. Odroid also makes the Home Cloud 2, which is the same hardware but the heatsink/frame is large enough to hold a 3.5" spinning SATA drive or a 2.5" SSD or 2.5" spinning drive. I like the much smaller size of the HC1 and I do not wish to invest in any more spinning drives if I can help it.

A microSD card is required for booting, but it's possible to move the operating system from the microSD to the SSD, so that's what I did. I'm using Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS on a 16GB partition of the 2TB SSD. LMS was easy to install with the dpkg program. I used the 32-bit version for arm devices.

My library is a bit over 1 TB, so it fits on the 2 TB SanDisk SSD with lots of room to grow. There are about 35,000 tracks, mostly FLAC, so it's a reasonable test for the hardware.

LMS runs very well on the Odroid. The web interface is downright snappy. As a stress test, I streamed hi-res music (24/96) to all 3 of my players at once. The CPU usage for the server was around 11%. If I stream hi-res to the Touch only, CPU usage drops to about 2%. If I stream 16/44.1 audio to all 3 players (no conversion required on the server) the CPU usage is around 5%.

Total system memory usage has been steady at only 210-215 MB. It did spike to about 315 MB during a scan, but with 2GB of ram I have plenty to spare. The system draws less than 5 watts of power, so it's perfect for a 24/7/365 server.

Price of the Odroid hardware is $49 + $13 for a power supply, $5 for a case, $8 for a microSD = $75.
The 2 TB SSD was just under $200.

I really like the low power draw, the small size, the reasonable cost and especially the silence.

I did a "clear library and rescan" on my old server as well as on the Odroid. The music library is the same on each system.

On my big noisy Intel i3 server with 8GB RAM, it took 18:03.
The Odroid completed the scan in 9:17! Wow!

I'm guessing the Odroid was helped a lot by scanning an SSD while the Intel i3 had to scan a spinning drive. Also, on the Odroid I'm running the LMS server and scanner processes at higher than normal priority levels. I gave more resources to LMS since it's really the only thing I will be running on the Odroid except for a firewall and Samba. But the higher priorities almost certainly gave the Odroid an edge during the scan.

I monitored the CPUs on the Odroid during the scan. 2 of the "big" cores were handling the scan, running about 50% each, and the other 2 "big" cores were loafing along at 2-3%. The 4 "little" cores were idle. I would estimate overall CPU usage at around 15% during a scan. I will be tweaking the performance even further as I go, but for now I am very pleased.

so, last year my touch stopped working for software reasons (i thought). since then, i moved to a new place. i thought i'd try the touch again. Voila! it works! i must've had a real bad connection before. the only glitch, is that my 'new' additions are gone. in my attempts (feeble) to get the touch going, i think i moved my 1000 albums to MY sqzbx..How do i bring the NEW files back to my hard drive. Thanks! Mike

LMS library empty after rescan

Hello,

I have QLogitechMediaServer 2.04.00 with LMS 7.9.2 running on a QNAP NAS for quite some time now. It ran very stable through all that time.

From time to time I add new albums or change some metadata and do a rescan. After the latest rescan (actually "clear library and rescan everything") my LMS library is completely empty. I tried several rescans, I restartet both LMS and NAS and even I checked the file path (which remained untouched). I also checked the permissions and changed from "read only" to "read and write" for the user "squeezeboxserver" on the NAS (even though "write" doesn't seem to make sense to me, does it?). Nothing helped, LMS library still shows not a single music file.

Any idea what might be wrong?

Best regards
Stefan

picoreplayer teilweise Probleme nach Neustart

Hallo zusammen

MFG

I had (and still have but don't use) one of the original Slimplayers, best thing ever, until L bought them and killed it. Overjoyed to find that it's now an OS project, I have LMS and Slimplayer running on a dedicated rPi. One comment, search capability in this group is awful, hence my first post - just how do I get music to play in track order? Just worked on the original Slim, I see nothing in this version to control that. Sorry if I missed it.
PS - the verification nonsense is even worse. No other group I belong to does this, and as usual, the Captcha images are just indecipherable. If I'm registered and logged in, forget this stupidity.

LMS 7.9.2 service shutting down

Hi,
my usually extremely stable LMS installation recently (3-4 weeks ago) started having problems. After a couple of days of successfully running, it's shutting down and cannot be successfully restarted (tried console as well as "computer management"/services. Only restarting the computer itself remedies it for a while.
The latest 2-3 updates of lms do not make a difference.

Boom - lost WiFi

First post, but long time SB user.

In my collection I have a couple of Booms (original, not UE). Once is in my office - connected by ethernet, the other is in the bedroom as an alarm - connected by WiFi. All was well until a week ago or so. I was woken by the alarm playing random tracks from LMS on the Synology NAS, went into the shower with the music playing as usual, but when I got out of the shower the music had stopped - still apparently playing, but silent. I powered off and on again, but was unable to connect to the WiFi. I went through the setup from scratch, could see my SID, checked and re-entered the WiFi password, but connection attempts just timed out and would not connect. I tried everything, made sure the MAC for the Boom was allowed in the Draytek router access control and so on, but no luck. I went through a few days of checking everything, restarting the router, re-adding the Boom's MAC, scanning for devices and finding the Boom, it just would not connect to the router any more. At this point I decided to swap the Booms over, but the office one also wouldn't connect to WiFi either although it was OK with ethernet.

So, short of running a cable across the landing from the office to the bedroom (unlikely to be allowed as a permanent fix), I'm stuck. The strange thing was that it dropped whilst in use without any other action - nothing had changed on the router, the network or any other hardware as I was in the shower and I'm the only in-house techie. I've scanned the network from the router and I can see the two Booms when they attempt to use the WiFi. Both MACs are allowed to connect and show in the Neighbo(u)rs tab in the router but they will not make an authorised connection to the network. All my other devices that use WiFi are OK, including a Receiver and Controller from the same MAC address range.

Just don't know what to try next...

Hallo

Freundliche Gruesse
