Help! LMS keeps asking for a restart

I wanted to install the shairtunes plugin,and (I think) thats when the mess started:
It didnt load properly (when I click the settings link, it does not find the respective html page). Also, it kept asking for a restart. - endlessly.
So, I uninstalled shairtunes, but the restart request remained.
Next, I uninstalled the Airtunes Plugin, as I thought I might have some bad Interactions. But the problem remains.
Then, I uninstalled the material skin, since in between ?I had this issue seen with material skin. But the problem remains.
Then, I went and deleted remaining obsolete plugin folders in /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins. But problem remains.

Now, Im asking for help, before uninstalling more Plugins....

one interesting thing I see: When I go to the default LMS Webpage (....:9000), there is no notification about updates needed (the i in a circle, followed by more information). But when I go to settings - plugins, it asks me for a restart. When I then go back to the main page (w/o restart), the i in a circle shows up! But it is followed only by a "1" - no further information.

Where can I go from here?
